Welcome to the Italy High School website. My name is Tanya Parker and I am the new Principal. I am eager to begin the year and to establish Italy High School as “The Best Little School in the State of Texas”. Italy High School as well as Italy ISD has a tradition of excellence. It is my vision for the school to expand on this tradition and excel academically as well as athletically. We our excited and ready for the challenges facing us in the year ahead. It is my vision to lead Italy High School to Exemplary status as well as to be named a National Blue Ribbon High School. I also want to share that I encourage active parent participation. It is my hope to establish a volunteer network as well as allow opportunities for parent education about the school process. I encourage honest and frank discussions and hope that we can work together as a team to improve the High School. Finally, I want to share my favorite story. It is posted in my office and I wear a starfish necklace every day to remind me of the importance of this message: One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy he asked, “What are you doing?”The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, the will die.”“Son,” the man said, “Don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t possibly make a difference.”After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the sea. Then, smiling at the man, he said, “I made a difference for that one.” As educators, we have the opportunity to make a difference – if only for one student. We are given the privilege to educate the future. The Italy High School faculty does not take that privilege or responsibility lightly. My expectations as principal are similar to the faculty expectations in the classroom…”If you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it.” I look forward to a wonderful year filled with success!
